CO2 Ablative Laser

CO2 Ablative Laser

Deep resurfacing for advanced skin concerns like wrinkles, scarring, and laxity

Overview

CO2 laser resurfacing is a powerful, medical-grade treatment that precisely targets deep skin imperfections. By using a high-energy carbon dioxide (CO2) laser, this procedure vaporizes damaged outer layers of skin while stimulating robust collagen regeneration in the dermis. The result: firmer, smoother, and dramatically rejuvenated skin.

This ablative laser is ideal for those dealing with more severe signs of aging or skin damage, including deep wrinkles, scars, and textural irregularities. Unlike light or superficial treatments, CO2 resurfacing offers long-lasting, transformative results in just one session—though it does require a longer recovery period.

Key Benefits

  • Reduces deep wrinkles, lines, and creases

  • Improves acne scars, trauma scars, and textural damage

  • Lifts and tightens loose skin

  • Fades age spots and sun damage

  • Stimulates long-term collagen production for improved elasticity

How It Works

Step 1: Consultation & Preparation
Your provider will evaluate your skin type and condition to determine if you’re a candidate for CO2 resurfacing. If approved, we’ll schedule your treatment with plenty of pre-care guidance, including skin prep instructions.

Step 2: Laser Application
Using a CO2 laser with a wavelength of 10,600 nm, precise beams vaporize thin layers of skin while creating controlled micro-injuries. These injuries trigger the body’s natural healing process, resulting in new collagen formation and healthier skin over time.

Step 3: Collagen Remodeling & Healing
As your skin heals over 7–14 days, you’ll experience significant improvements in tone, texture, and firmness. Final results continue to develop for several months as collagen regeneration progresses.

Additional Information

What CO2 Laser Resurfacing Treats

CO2 laser is especially effective for:

  • Deep facial wrinkles and etched-in lines

  • Surgical or acne scars

  • Lax, sagging skin on the lower face or around the eyes

  • Sunspots, age spots, and pigmentation

  • Uneven skin tone and texture

  • Pre-cancerous growths (actinic keratosis, with medical clearance)

Pre-Treatment Guidelines

To prepare for CO2 laser resurfacing:

  • Avoid sun exposure and artificial tanning for 2–4 weeks before your appointment

  • Discontinue photosensitizing topicals (retinoids, glycolic/salicylic acid) at least 1 week prior

  • A numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area 1 hour before the procedure to minimize discomfort

Post-Treatment Overview & Recovery Timeline

CO2 laser recovery involves several healing phases. While full healing takes 1–2 weeks, redness and sensitivity may persist longer. Results improve progressively over 3–6 months as collagen builds.

Phase 1: Immediate Post-Treatment (Hours After)

  • Expect burning sensation, redness, swelling

  • Apply cold gel packs and keep skin moist with Aquaphor or a laser balm

Phase 2: Days 1–2 – Crust Formation Begins

  • Cleanse gently with Cetaphil and apply diluted vinegar soaks throughout the day

  • Reapply Aquaphor after each soak

  • Redness and scabbing will peak during this period

Phase 3: Days 3–6 – Exfoliation & Shedding

  • Continue cleansing and vinegar soaks 2–3 times/day

  • Do not pick or rub peeling skin

  • Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen when outside

  • Aquaphor may be used on dry areas only

Phase 4: Days 7–14 – Final Healing

  • Vinegar soaks can be discontinued

  • Cleanse as usual, wear mineral makeup if desired

  • Residual redness is normal and will fade gradually

Additional Aftercare Instructions

  • Elevate your head while sleeping to reduce swelling

  • Avoid alcohol, heavy activity, and sweating for at least 48 hours

  • Skip hot tubs, saunas, pools, or steam rooms until skin fully heals

  • Use baby shampoo and avoid hot water directly on the face

  • Do not exfoliate or apply actives until cleared by your provider

  • Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen every day during and after healing
